Rest, Rise, and Repeat: A Three Part Abstract Series

This recent abstract series represents the different and necessary patterns of life in order to be our fullest selves.  Gardening has taught me so much about this concept as well.  As an avid gardener, there are seasons of dormancy, seasons to sow, seasons to grow, and seasons to prepare.  There are things happening under the ground as well that we cannot see that are necessary and important to survival and flourishing.  Did you know that a flower has to die in order for it to reseed itself?  I often liken these elements to the spiritual realm as represented in the paintings. There is a seen realm and an unseen realm.  It takes faith to believe in an unseen realm…that there’s something happening in us and around us that is perhaps bigger and more meaningful than what we can see.  This concept is something we discuss a lot at home especially with the kids.  They are quite curious to name things which we cannot see, but which we can see evidence of—the wind, love, glaciers to name a few.  Our society in the West is quite an individualistic one which has its purposes, but isn’t always as serving as reality.  Production and consumption, two of America’s favorites, is not the only things worthy, and I think society feels the pressure of those agendas quite often and heavily.  There’s no more value in rest, but in reality, rest is required in order to rise and offer something to the world.  These pieces are just about that concept—about giving yourself permission to follow the natural ebb and flow of life whatever that may look like for you.
